IT'S ALIIIIIVE!: Days of Fear & Wonder & Feminist Sci-Fi this autumn in London

Very excited to be participating in the BFI's Days of Fear and Wonder science fiction season! As part of Club des Femmes, I'm co-curating the ADA & AFTER: WOMEN DO SCIENCE (FICTION) weekender, 20-23 November, at the ICA, the Electric Cinema Shoreditch and Hackney Picturehouse. With Tank Girl, Ada Lovelace, Björk, Lieutenant Uhura, Katniss Everdeen, Ottica Zero, Mary Shelley, co-dependent lesbian space aliens and Maisie the Space Dog all in attendance cinematically, we will also be joined by BidishaLiesel SchwartzCampbell XNalo HopkinsonMaja BorgSophie Robinson and Isabel Waidner. More special guests tba!

I'll also be talking about women in science fiction and why I'd rather be a cyborg than a goddess at the BFI on 10th November, immediately followed by an introduction to The Handmaid's Tale. Come along for fembots, Frankenstein and a chance to re-evaluate an under-appreciated adaptation of a visionary book. I'll be back at the BFI on Nov 11th to talk about robot design and on Nov 28th to talk about Lizzie Borden's Born in Flames, as part of the awesome Afrofuturism weekend. And if you can't make it to London, you can take a peek at the compendium that accompanies the season, where I have an essay on trans, gender-variant, non-binary and post-gendered characters in science fiction film. To the binary... and beyond!
